Ongoing Additional Activities

Job Readiness
Employers consistently remind us that they are looking for more than job skills and experience when hiring new employees. Employers are looking for people who understand how to operate in the workplace. The WIB has a special training program, which is mandatory for all adult clients, designed to identify the skills, behaviors, and attitudes that contribute to an employee's success in the workplace. These Job Readiness workshops also provide special training on how to select the right career and how to prepare for, as well as interview for, a job.

Nurse Workforce Initiative
The WIB is completing a three-year program to increase the number of trained, licensed registered nurses in Solano County. The program is assisting first year nursing students who are at risk of not completing the rigorous program. Additionally, the program is providing upgrade training for incumbent medical workers.

Youth Employment Program
Through annual funding from Solano County Health and Social Services (H&SS) the Youth Employment Program (YEP) strives to achieve a primary objective: to expose dependents of TANF/CalWORKs/AFDC households or foster homes, or youth enrolled in the County's Cal-Learn program, to the world of work. By providing aid-dependent youth with exposure to adults at work, the youth learn first hand the rewards available to working adults. These are youth that do not have this experience in their daily life. This positive contact is also hoped to encourage the youth to stay in school, and to be successful in careers or vocations that provide professional satisfaction and financial rewards.
Each year, over 40 youths, ages 14-18, will enroll in a paid work experience program, and will attend job readiness and career exploration workshops.
